How to create marketing campaign

What Is a Campaign in HubSpot?

A HubSpot Campaign is a container that groups all the marketing assets and activities tied to a single marketing initiative in one place. Think of it as a folder where you tag related emails, landing pages, blog posts, ads, social posts, forms, and workflows together. Instead of checking each asset separately, you view performance across all of them from one campaign dashboard.

How It Is Useful

  • Unified tracking: see how all your campaign assets are performing together, not just individually

  • Budget and goal management: set a campaign budget, define goals (such as number of contacts or influenced revenue), and track progress against them

  • Marketing calendar: campaigns with a start and end date appear on the marketing calendar so your team can see what is running and when

  • Attribution: understand how the campaign influenced contacts and deals through the campaign's details page

  • Team collaboration: assign a campaign owner, add notes, and comment on assets so your team stays aligned

  • UTM tracking: every campaign gets a UTM value you can use to track traffic driven to your site

When to Use It

Use campaigns when you are running a coordinated marketing initiative across more than one channel or asset, such as a product launch, a seasonal promotion, a lead generation push, or a webinar. If you are sending one email on its own, you may not need a campaign. But if that email connects to a landing page, an ad, and a follow-up workflow, grouping them in a campaign gives you a complete picture of performance.

How to create a campaign

Step 1: Go to Marketing > Campaigns (or click More > Marketing > Campaigns depending on your account layout)

Step 2: Click Create campaign in the upper right

Step 3: Click Start from scratch, then click Next

Step 4: Fill in the campaign details in the right panel:

  • Campaign name: make it unique and easy to understand for the whole team
  • Campaign color: used to organize and color-code tasks on the marketing calendar
  • Campaign owner: the person responsible for this campaign
  • Start date and end date: required for the campaign to show on the marketing calendar
  • Campaign goal: summarize the objective, such as generate leads, drive traffic, or increase signups
  • Campaign audience: describe who you are targeting
  • Currency code: select the currency for your budget tracking
  • Campaign notes: any additional details the team needs to know

Step 6: Click Create. The campaign will appear in your campaigns list and on the marketing calendar if dates are set.

Step 7: Add assets to the campaign. Click the campaign name, then click Actions > Add assets. In the left sidebar, select the asset type (email, landing page, blog post, ad, form, workflow, etc.). Search for existing assets, select the checkboxes, and click Save. To create a new asset and automatically link it to this campaign, click Create [asset type] in the top right of the dialog box.

Step 8: Create a tracking URL if you want to measure traffic from this campaign. Click Actions > Create tracking URL from the campaign details page.
